SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING – May 17, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
ATTENDEES:
Kent Carlson, Leonard Glasser, Robert Moeller, Peter Anthony, James Throwe, Roger Anderson, Terri Kyc and Doris Avery.
MINUTES:
The April 19, 2010 minutes were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: No Report filed. Balance is $3,690.00.
CORRESPONDENCE: Kent received a letter from Art Sladyk regarding a program called “Wreaths Across America”. Art would like to start something with this event. Event would December 11, 2010 @ 12:00 at Veterans Memorial Park. Letter filed with secretary.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Veteran’s Day Parade: November 7, 2010
Need to send in the application for this event.
Veteran’s Day Ceremony: November 11, 2010
No report.
Essay Contest:
Roger Anderson will chair this event for next school year. Entries would be from be November to December.
Evening In The Park: May 15, 2010
Kent reported that everything went very well. We had good participation. The Jaycees and Chamber of Commerce were there. It was suggested that next year we do double sided posters to be placed on lawns, etc. We would need a permit

Kent reported that the JI printed the event 2 weeks before the actual event. Need to see if we can’t get better coverage and closer to the date of the event.
Memorial Day Parade: May 31, 2010
Leonard Glasser reported that letters and e-mails are coming in. Boy Scouts are ready to go. Everything is looking quite well. Kent will do publicity for this event.
Flag Day Ceremony: June 12, 2010
Need a person to chair this event. Randy Olsen with his Troop #186 may be doing this event.
OLD BUSINESS:
John Stonoha has been called and e-mail and has not responded. Need to find out about the winners of the Essay contest as to whether they received their prizes. It was decided that we would give the two 1st place winners a $100.00 gift certificate from Barnes & Noble; the two 2nd place winners $50.00 gift certificate and the two 3rd place winners $25.00 gift certificate. Kent will follow up on this.
Still need a publicity chairperson.
NEW BUSINESS:
Need new members to join the Patriotic Commission.
Need to change the names on the brick application. Robert Moeller will take care of this. Herb Asplund will chair this project. The cost of the bricks is still $35.00.
Philip R. Smith’s flag is in poor shape. Need to speak to the principal regarding getting a new flag.
