Patriotic Commission Minutes 01/19/2010
SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING – January 19, 2010


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:

Kent Carlson, Herb Asplund, Robert Moeller, Peter Anthony, Terri Kyc, John Stonoha, Leonard Glasser, James Throwe and Doris Avery.

MINUTES:

The December 21, 2009 minutes were approved after making the following correction under “essay contest” change has to prepared.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Leonard received a letter from the State of Connecticut regretting that they cannot supply a guest speaker for 2010 Memorial Day Event.


TREASURER’S REPORT:

$13,250.00.  No report filed with secretary.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Veteran’s Day Parade:  November 7, 2010

No report.

Veteran’s Day Ceremony:  November 11, 2010

No report.

Essay Contest:  

John reported that he has changed the date information on the form and will have these ready and sent out.  The Essay Contest will now start January 26 and run through February 26.  Publicity should be out by February.  Discussion followed as to whether we should give gift



Regular Meeting
January 19, 2010        - 2 –


certificates/bonds.  It was decided to stay with bonds as the prize.

It was indicated, by John, that at our March meeting we would then pick this year’s winners.

Evening In The Park:  May 15, 2010

Kent reported that the letter and invitations would go out next week.

Memorial Day Parade:  May 31, 2010

Leonard reported that he is reviewing last year’s information and is still looking for a guest speaker for this event.  Kent will check as to how many flags we have.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 12, 2010

Peter Anthony will be collecting any used flags.  

OLD BUSINESS:

None.

NEW BUSINESS:  

Herb received 3 requests for bricks.  

Roger Anderson has replaced Scott Simmons as member of the Patriotic Commission.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:10.

Our next regular meeting will be February 16, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
