SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING - May 18, 2009



The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:

Teri Dickey-Gaignat, Kent Carlson, Herb Asplund, Leonard Glasser, Robert Moeller, Peter Anthony, John Stonoha, James Throwe and Doris Avery.

Stephen Livingston, Troop #390 picked up flags and burial site map for the placement of flags at all cemeteries.

MINUTES:

The April 20, 2009 minutes were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT:  Kent gave a written break down of the report to secretary.  Balance of this date is $1,500.00.  

CORRESPONDENCE:  None

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Veteran’s Day Parade:  November 8, 2009
Nothing in the papers regarding the parade.

Veteran’s Day Ceremony:  November 11, 2009
No report.

Essay Contest:  

The Patriotic Commission members picked the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.  John will notify the winners.  A list of all who entered is needed and given to Tim Moriarty.  A certificate will then be made up and given to the schools for distribution to the participants.

Need to contact the Clerk of the Council regarding setting up some time for the winners to be present at Town Council meeting and read their entries.

Evening In The Park:  May 16, 2009

Kent reported that the weather was not the greatest.   Confusion as to the time of the fireworks display.  Kent suggested that we run a paid ad in the reminder for next year’s event.

The slide, obstacle course and the bouncy house were a great success with the kids.  Next year we need to make sure that we get better coverage of this event.  Suggests, “No time mentioned for fireworks

Memorial Day Parade:  May 25, 2009

Leonard Glasser reported that all set and ready to go.  Calls are coming in for participation.  Still need a Grand Marshall and a person to play taps.  Kent Carlson will be Master of Ceremony.  Girl Scouts and Boys Scouts, VFW, American Legion and Town Council participating.  The Manchester Regional Fife Drum Band will be participating.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 14, 2009

South Windsor Fire House, Ellington Road @ 11:00 a.m.  John reported that he is all set for this event.  Teri will place an ad referencing this event.  

OLD BUSINESS:  None.

NEW BUSINESS:  None.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:35.

Our next regular meeting will be June 15, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
