SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING – April 20, 2009



The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:

Teri Dickey-Gaignat, Kent Carlson, Herb Asplund, Leonard Glasser, Robert Moeller, Peter Anthony, John Stonoha, James Throwe and Doris Avery.

MINUTES:

The March 16, 2009 minutes were approved after making the following correction:  $2,600.00 was not budgeted.
TREASURER’S REPORT:  No Report.  

CORRESPONDENCE:  None

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Veteran’s Day Parade:  November 8, 2009
No report.

Veteran’s Day Ceremony:  November 11, 2009
No report.

Essay Contest:  

John reported that a total of 49 entries were submitted for this year’s Essay Contest.  At our last meeting, members were given entries to read and report their best from 1st choice to 3rd choice.  After a discussion of the members 1st thru 3rd choices, John will mail out the best choices to all members and from these entries a decision will be made (at our next meeting) who places 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place.

Evening In The Park:  May 16, 2009

Kent will get in touch with Paul Burnham regarding inflation of a party tent.

Memorial Day Parade:  May 25, 2009

Leonard Glasser reported that he is getting good participation.  It was suggested to contact the Manchester Regional Fife Drum Band to see if they might be able to march in our Memorial Day Parade.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 14, 2009

John reported that this event looks like there will be a good participation.

OLD BUSINESS:

Received a response from Mr. Hansen regarding Veterans Day Celebrations in the schools.  (See attached)

Herb reported that the worn and torn flags throughout the schools are being replaced.

Teri Dickey-Gaignat will do publicity for the upcoming events; Evening in the Park, Memorial Day Parade.

NEW BUSINESS:

It was suggested that we discuss with the Board of Education as to whether we should continue with the Essay Contest!

Meeting was adjourned at 8:25.

Our next regular meeting will be May 18, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
