SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING – March 16, 2009



The meeting was called to order at 7:33 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:

Teri Dickey-Gaignat, Kent Carlson, Herb Asplund, Leonard Glasser, Robert Moeller, Peter Anthony, Terri Kyc, John Stonoha and Doris Avery.

MINUTES:

The February 17, 2009 minutes were approved.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Kent received the following correspondence:

Letter from the Veterans Affair Office regarding the setting up of a website – Teri Dickey-Gaignet will follow-up on this.

Letter from Steven Livingston (Boys Scout Troop #390) wanting to place flags in the cemeteries.

The following are the cemeteries in South Windsor:

        God’s Little Acre – Main Street – Evergreen Lodge       
        Bissell Cemetery – Rye Street
        Cemetery behind the Board of Ed – Main Street
        Wapping Cemetery – Revolutionary Cemetery
                @ Five corners
        Cemetery behind Congregational Church – Main St

Letter from Dr. Robert Kozaczka inviting our organization to nominate someone who we believe deserves to be recognized for enhancing the quality of South Windsor to be awarded the Eugene Policelli Service Award.  No nominations were made.

E-Mail from Dan Hansen referencing the Veterans Day Program.  Response from Dr. Kozaczka regarding a meaningful program  held in the schools on Veterans Day.  He feels that a program was held in each school.  He has asked the

School principals to verify that a veterans commemoration program was held.  

Chamber of Commerce invitation to the members of the Commission to enjoy a night with a brief presentation of their new website on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..  Complimentary refreshments will be provided.  Leonard Glasser will attend.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Estimated balance as of this date $2,600.00.  Received bus, flowers and firework invoices.  No copy of report provided.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Veteran’s Day Parade:  November 8, 2009

Web site not yet open.  More information to follow.

Veteran’s Day Ceremony:  November 11, 2009

No report.

Essay Contest:  

John received 34 entries from the elementary schools and 15 from the middle school.  John will send out the entries to the members of the Patriotic Commission for their review and their choices of the entries to be discussed at our next meeting.

Evening In The Park:  May 16, 2009

All invitations have been sent out.  The police will not have a display at this year’s event, although their presence will be seen.

The Town Manager will be setting up a meeting for this event for all participants involved.

Memorial Day Parade:  May 25, 2009

Kent has received all the information from Robert Moeller regarding the parade.  Kent asked that Leonard Glasser send

Out the invitations and that he take over the event as Kent will be in charge of the Evening in the Park.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 14, 2009

On going.

OLD BUSINESS:

Teri Dickey-Gaignat has accepted the appointment of Public Relations Officer.

No participants in the Memorial Day Parade “Band”.  Herb and Kent have had no success in obtaining a band for this year’s event.

The State Statue on Veteran’s Day event in the schools has not changed.

Conditions of flags and Veterans Program in schools, still open and ongoing.

NEW BUSINESS:  None.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:20.

Our next regular meeting will be April 20, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
