SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING: January 17, 2012


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:
Kent Carlson, Jim Throwe, Gene Botteron, Herb Asplund, Len Glasser, Peter Anthony. Teri Dickey-Gaignant called in, it was her birthday. Bob Hornish was absent. Roger Anderson was at the American Legion meeting. Billy Carroll had a PZC meeting but came later.

MINUTES:
The December 19, 2011 were approved.
 
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Start: $13,500.
Spent: $3225.
Balance approximately $9285.
Outstanding and anticipated bills: $8350.

CORRESPONDENCE:
We received a award for participating in the Hartford Veteran’s Day Parade.
We received a letter from council explaining the new expiration of our terms. New expiration date is 31 December of the year of their term, rather than 31 August.
We received a request to make sure a flag is placed on a veteran’s grave that has been missed in the past. He is in Wapping cemetery. Len will check the list.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Essay Contest:
Kent has mailed out publicity to South Windsor Life, Journal Inquirer, and Reminders press.
Roger has distributed copies of the information to all the schools and magnet schools and copies of the application are at the town hall and library.
Roger is unsure how it is being pushed in the schools, if at all.
Kent said he would try and check with the Superintendent.
The essay contest is applications are on the website.

Evening In The Park:  May 19, 2012
Invites to participate will go out in February.

Memorial Day Parade: May 28, 2012
The speaker will be Colonel William Adams of the Connecticut Army National Guard. The flags have been ordered for the graves.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 10, 2012
No Report

Veteran’s Day Parade:  November 4, 2012
No report

Veteran’s Day Ceremony:  November 11, 2012
No report

Veterans in the Schools: Date uncertain. Probably November 12th.  
Veteran’s day is a Sunday. No report.

Wreaths Across America:  December 15, 2012.
The date was changed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Still need a secretary. No volunteers.

Alternate members.
Herb stated the 10th member was approved by council. We should have a full staff by March 2012.
The town website is updated.

NEW BUSINESS:

Publicity: Kent  submitted information about the essay contest to the JI, Courant, Reminder, and South Windsor Life magazine.  

Still need to look for jackets and pins that were suggested by Billy Carroll in December.

ANYTHING FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMITTEE:
Nothing

The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 21 at 7:30.
