SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING: December 19, 2011


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:
Kent Carlson, Roger Anderson, Jim Throwe, Bob Hornish, Gene Botteron, Herb Asplund, Teri Dickey-Gaignat. Billy Carroll. Len Glasser called in sick. Peter Anthony called in sick.

MINUTES:
The 21, 2011 minutes were approved.
 
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Start: $13,500.
Spent: $3225.
Balance approximately $9275.
Outstanding and anticipated bills: 8600

CORRESPONDENCE:
None

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Essay Contest:
There will be 3 groups.
Grades K-2 will do a poster “My favorite historical place in Connecticut”. A write up explaining the poster is not required.
Grades 3-5 and 6-12 will be an essay “My favorite patriot and why”
Dates of the contest will be 15 December through 31 January 2012.
Roger will contact Matt Galligan to put the information on Cox Community news.
Kent will mail out publicity to South Windsor Life, Journal Inquirer, and Reminders press.
Roger has distributed copies of the information to all the schools and magnet schools and copies of the application are at the town hall and library. We will pay for any printing that needs to be done.

Veterans in the Schools: November 11, 2011.
No report.

Wreaths Across America: December 10, 2011.
Excellent town response. Over 450 wreaths placed. Good work by Art Sladyk and the American Legion Post 133.

OLD BUSINESS:

Still need a secretary. No volunteers.

Alternate members. Herb stated that at council work session, a public hearing was scheduled for 2 weeks to move the expiration date of all commission members to December 31.

The town website is updated.

NEW BUSINESS:

Publicity: Kent will submit information about the essay contest to the JI, Courant, Reminder, and South Windsor Life magazine.  

Kent will provide a expense sheet for January.

ANYTHING FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMITTEE:

Billy Carroll suggested we get Patriotic Commission jackets/shirts/sweat shirts to wear at event. We need new buttons also.

Herb is still updating the soldier presently serving board.
