SOUTH WINDSOR PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING – April 18, 2011


The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and opened by saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

ATTENDEES:
Teri Dickey-Gaignat, Kent Carlson, Herb Asplund, Leonard Glasser, Teri Kyc, Peter Anthony, Roger Anderson, Jim Throwe, Bob Moeller, Billy Carroll. Doris Avery was still sick.

MINUTES:
The March 21, 2011 minutes were approved.
 
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Start: $13,500.
Spent: $5,500.
Balance $8000.
Outstanding and anticipated bills:  $7000.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Essay Contest:
Roger talked to the winners. Participation certificates are printed. Kent will put publicity in papers to include winners, subjects. Kent will call Chris Lariviere about convertibles for the winners to ride in the Memorial Day Parade. Roger will arrange for the winners to attend and speak at the June Town Council meeting. Bob said the signs for the cars are in the maintenance room.

Evening In The Park:  May 21, 2011
Everything is moving forward. Food vendor is set. Fireworks are set. Band is all set. Bounce house all set. Invitations went out. Permits for pavilion and chairs all set. Kent will get fireworks permit from CT State Fire Marshall.
Billy Carroll and Kent discussed publicity. It was decide to use large signs at key locations around town. Kent and Billy will take care of that. Teri volunteered to place posters around town. Kent will get them to her ASAP. Billy and Kent discussed newspaper advertising. The committee suggested the South Windsor Life, Journal Inquirer, and South Windsor Reminde5r. Kent will negotiate and arrange because Billy’s work is taking him out of town for two weeks.

Memorial Day Parade: May 21, 2011
Len Glasser reported he has requested another speaker from the CT National Guard for Memorial Day. He has not heard about a unit from the CT National Guard to march yet. It was suggested we contact the Army Reserve Band for next year. Teri said she would order the wreaths but would not be able to pick them up. Herb stated he would not be in town so he could not help line the units up for the parade.

Flag Day Ceremony:  June 21, 2011
Kent reported that Randy Olson of Troop 186 has agreed to do  ceremony.

Veteran’s Day Parade:  2011

OLD BUSINESS:
Kent said we need more new members. It was approved to run an announcement in the papers looking for new members.

Herb is still working on the town hall Veterans wall.

NEW BUSINESS:
Herb stated we need another brick for the Memorial Arch at Veterans Memorial Park.

Billy stated the information on the town website was inaccurate (date, events). Kent said he would fix.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30.

The next meeting will be April 18, 2011 at 7:30 PM
