Historic District Commission 2-7-06

1.      CALL MEETING TO ORDER

Chairperson Macro called the meeting to order at 7:35p.m.

2.      ROLL CALL

Members present:        Chairperson Macro, Commissioner Fitzpatrick, Commissioner Burnham, Commissioner Futtner, and Commissioner Pitcock  

Alternates present:     Commissioner Oates

Alternates absent:      Commissioner Klein, Commissioner Jennings

3.      PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Mr. John Henderson, 1668 Main Street
Mrs. Debra Burnham, 1909 Main Street

4.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

Motion to:      approve the minutes of January 10, 2006

Was made by Commissioner Pitcock
Seconded by Commissioner Futtner
The motion:  carried and passed unanimously

NEW BUSINESS

None

OLD BUSINESS

a.      John Henderson appeared to discuss the COA application for his sign, which may be on Town property.  He indicated that other signs exist in the Historic District with similar setbacks from the road.  He also indicated that the sign was for a sheep breeding business.

A motion was made by Commissioner Macro and seconded by Commissioner Futtner to approve the COA for the farm sign with the stipulation that the sign setback be increased to a distance equal to, or greater than, the fence setback.

Vote:  Three in favor and two abstentions.  Motion carried and passed.



ADMINISTRATION

a.      Chairperson Macro discussed the list of properties to be included in the state survey.  The survey includes approximately 163 structures.  A request to increase funding will be made to cover the additional 13 properties.

b.      Bruce and Debra Burnham appeared to discuss the need to replace the current slate roof. The roof has been inspected by two contractors (Bostwick and Walsh) who recommend replacement of the slate.

A motion was made by Commissioner Fitzpatrick and seconded by Commissioner Futtner to approve the COA application to replace the slate roof on the main house with 50 year architectural asphalt shingles.  This includes repair/replacement of the planking  under the shingles and repair/replacement of the flashing.  The Burnhams are requested to provide samples of their planned shingles prior to installation.  The motion carried and passed unanimously.
