Historic District Commission 1-10-06 (public hearing)

1.      CALL PUBLIC HEARING TO ORDER

Chairperson Macro called the meeting to order at 7:45 PM

2.      ROLL CALL

Members present:        Chairperson Macro, Commissioner Futtner, Commissioner Pitcock, and Commissioner Burnham

Members absent: Commissioner Fitzpatrick

Alternates present:     Commissioner Klein

Alternates absent:      Commissioner Oates and Commissioner Jennings

PRESENTATION OF APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS

Chairperson Macro read the legal notice, which appeared in the Journal Inquirer. The Chair appointed Alternate, Jean Klein, as a full member for this meeting, to replace Commissioner Burnham, whose wife’s application was being heard. Presentation of the application was made by Debra and Robert Burnham. They showed samples of architectural asphalt shingles they would like to use to replace the existing slate roof.  Will use dark slate like color as thick as possible to simulate the original roof.  Interior beams are rotting.  Slate has deteriorated beyond repair.  Wide boards underneath are rotten and moldy and need replacement.

New roof estimates do not include internal attic structural beam repair or replacement.  Strain and bowing on internal horizontal 6” x 6” beams due to present weight.  New roof (slate) would put additional potentially dangerous weight on structural beams (plywood 5/8” and new slate).

The hearing closed at 8:05 p.m.

        Respectfully Submitted,
