PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES
February 16, 2010
7:00 p.m.
South Windsor Council Chambers
PURPOSE: To receive citizen input on a proposed Amendment to Ordinance #165 and #166 of the Code of Ordinances, Section 14-31 Concerning Building Code – Construction and Alteration Fees
Mayor Pelkey called the Public Hearing to order at 7:00 p.m.; and requested that the Clerk of the Council read the call of the meeting (a copy of which is attached hereto). There were approximately twenty-four (24) people present in the audience.
Mayor Pelkey asked if there was anyone from the public that would like to speak.
Mr. Don Belleville, 18 Alison Drive came forward. Mr. Belleville stated that he feels the fees are too light and he feels that the Building Department should be self sustaining. Accessibility to get a permit is harder than the payment. Residents should be able to go online and pull permits. The Town should also considering staying open late once a week. This would benefit the residents which in turn will benefit the Town.
Ms. Cate Evans, the Director of the Chamber of Commerce came before the Town Council to speak in opposition of new business fee’s as well as making permit fee’s higher.
Mr. Jeff Sawyer from Generation II came forward and spoke in opposition to creating more fee’s to the business community.
As is the custom, the Mayor asked for a show of hands for a straw vote on the proposal. The results were as follows:
Those in favor of the Town Council Amending Ordinance #165 and #166: - 0
Those in opposition of the Town Council Amending Ordinance #165 and #166: - 7
The public hearing was closed at 7:14 p.m.
