Town Council Public Hearing 7-21-08

TO BE PUBLISHED IN THE JOURNAL INQUIRER

PUBLIC HEARING MINUTES

July 21, 2008
7:30 p.m.

South Windsor Council Chambers

PURPOSE:        To receive citizen input on an Amendment to Ordinance #180, an Ordinance Prohibiting Tractor-Trailer Truck Traffic on portions of addressStreetTroy Road and addressStreetBrookfield Street”

Mayor Streeter called the Public Hearing to order at 7:30 p.m.; and requested that the Clerk of the Council read the call of the meeting (a copy of which is attached hereto).  There were approximately fifteen (15) people present in the audience.

Mayor Streeter asked if there was anyone from the public that would like to speak.

Mr. Jim Yungk, addressStreet121 Farnham Road stated that addressStreetTroy Road and addressStreetRye Street are not designed to handle tractor-trailer truck traffic.  When Aldi’s is constructed, the State DOT will put scales out and the trucks will use residential areas where there are no sidewalks and too many kids in order to avoid the scales.  Mr. Yungk felt that someone will get hurt in this type of situation.

Ms. Carol Flagg, addressStreet140 McGrath Road explained that she lives behind Aldi’s and there is a lot of truck traffic in the area.  This is a terrible situation and a very big concern.

Commander Reed, South Windsor Police Department came forward to address the amendment of this ordinance.  He stated that this amendment will not allow tractor- trailer truck traffic on addressStreetTroy Road or addressStreetBrookfield Street, unless their destination in on the road.  It is the intent of this amendment to keep truck traffic away from addressStreetTroy Road and addressStreetBrookfield Street.

Following comments from the audience, Mayor Streeter asked for a Straw Vote, the results of which were as follows:

Those in favor of the Town Council adopting amendments to Ordinance #180:  - 7

Those against the Town Council adopting amendments to Ordinance #180:  - 0

The public hearing was closed at 7:39 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
