Approval of Minutes:  Minutes for May 2011 meeting need to be approved at July meeting

Public Input:  Eric LaJoie, President-elect South Windsor Boys Lacrosse
Mr. LaJoie presented information regarding the possibility of placing a practice wall at the tennis courts at Rye Street:
  • being shooed away from Wapping and high school because of damage to walls
  • lacrosse best learned on a wall
  • Glastonbury installed similar wall in 2005
  • Construction would be similar to concrete walls at Wapping tennis courts
  • Would be multi-purpose wall that could be used for lacrosse, tennis and soccer
  • Initially thinking court furthest from parking lot but after further discussion of safety issues, proposed plan to use the two courts furthest away from parking lot (would be courts 3 and 4)
  • Lacrosse has raised the funds to construct the wall
  • Lacrosse to obtain formal plans to submit to PNZ and provide budget.
  • Ray to provide the site plan.
Motion by Al Larson:  Motion to authorize the development of plans of Courts 3 and 4 at Rye Street for use as a lacrosse wall facility.  Dave Romejko second the motion; all were in favor.

Report of Rec. Director:
  • Eli Terry gym floor being redone by Sports Court.  New floor will be thicker than vinyl (hard plastic with honeycomb underside).  This floor will allow tables and chairs to be used on it.
  • Bobcat to be delivered in approximately 4 weeks.
  • Ayers softball field:  because of the ADA issues, the field is being realigned so that home plate will be in the current 3rd base outfield area.  Handicap parking will be at the new right field area.
  • fencing for this project will be approximately $50,000
  • discussed higher fencing along Ayers Road to keep balls from entering road
Motion by Al Larson:  Motion to authorize up to $50,000 for realignment of softball field at Ayers Road including but not limited to irrigation, fencing, and improvements.
