2017 Shirley Master Plan Workshop - June 14, 2017, 7:00 p.m.
The public is invited to provide input on the draft of the 2017 Shirley Master Plan at a workshop sponsored by the Shirley Planning Board. The workshop will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, June 14 at the Town Offices, 7 Keady Way, Shirley. Once the public’s input has been incorporated, a final version of the Master Plan will be presented to Shirley’s voters for adoption at Special Town Meeting in the fall of 2017. If you are a resident of Shirley concerned about the future of your Town, be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to participate.

Massachusetts State Law stipulates that every town create a Master Plan, a guide that will help the town’s boards, committees and community organizations coordinate their activities and ensure that the town and its residents continue to prosper. The Plan is advisory only and does not impose additional requirements or regulations. Instead it acts as a guide for future development and provides town leaders with a framework on which to base their decisions.

The 2017 Shirley Master Plan provides a much needed update to the current Master Plan, completed in 2004. It has been developed by the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission (MRPC), with extensive input and assistance from Shirley residents and the Town’s boards, committees and community organizations regarding Shirley’s shared values and goals. The Plan includes chapters covering Shirley’s historic and cultural resources, services and facilities, economic development, housing, and transportation; and concludes with a series of recommendations for the Town to consider: short term (within 12 months); mid term (1-5 years); and long term (5+ years).
