Youth Commission
Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, April 23, 2009
5:00 pm
In Attendance: Joanne Scott (Chair), Mary Manning, James Lister, Lori Evans, Deb Amaral

Introduction
Joanne opened up the meeting. The group introduced themselves to all. Lori Evans was introduced as the new Plummer Home representative in place of James Lister.
Meeting minutes from the March meeting were reviewed and approved.
Youth Week
Youth Week is scheduled for April vacation which will be from April 19 – 25.
For Sundaes on Sunday, James will pick up the ice cream from Puleo’s and deliver it to the Collins Middle School the Friday before. Set up will begin at 10:30. Joanne will pick up some balloons and will drop them off. Tom will be there to help volunteer with some friends.
The group further reviewed the draft calendar of events for Youth Week.
Hip Hop lessons will be added to the calendar and will take place on Friday from 1 – 2 pm. MusicTogether will be held at Chulamama on Monday at 10:00am. Tom will follow up with Eileen Dunn to see what time Itsy Bitsy Yoga will be and what movie will be shown at the Council on Aging building. Tom will put together the final details of the Youth Week Calendar and will send it out tomorrow.
SafeHomes Collaboration
Joanne did not make the SafeHomes meeting the other night but will meet with them at their May meeting to discuss ideas on to collaborate to host some youth seminars on suicide prevention, drug and alcohol prevention and domestic violence.
The group still needs to further discuss a location, time and date for the seminar(s). Mary thought the SATV studio may not attract as many people and thought an auditorium style set up may be better. Deb also mentioned the School Committee Chamber Room as a possible location.
James mentioned that the group needs to be wary of the people/organizations we select to lead any type of discussion.
Future Meetings
The next meeting in May will be held as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, May 19th at 5 pm. However, it was decided to change future meetings to the 2nd Tuesday of the month after the May meeting.
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 at 5:00 pm.
