Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009
5:00 pm

In Attendance:  Joanne Scott (Chair), Eileen Dunn, Bil Legault, Zac Broughton, Peter Baglioni
City Staff:          Jason Silva, Tom Watkins
Introduction
Joanne opened up the meeting.  The group introduced themselves to all.  Meeting minutes from the January meeting were reviewed and approved.

Winter Wonderland Day
Eileen reported that she checked out the condition of Olde Salem Greens last week with course superintendent Dick Drew.  They noted that a lot of snow had melted and lots of grass patches were showing.  The weather forecast for Winter Wonderland Day was predicted to be a mix of rain and sleet therefore making conditions at the golf course muddy.  The group decided it would not be worth holding the event indoors and decided to cancel Winter Wonderland Day for this year.  Bil stated that he could still have the pizza delivered and served to the Boys & Girls Club (the YMCA already provides meals for their kids).  Joanne and Bil will contact each other and work on having the pizza brought to the Boys & Girls Club.

Youth Week
Youth Week is scheduled for April vacation which will be from April 20 – 24.  Bill would like to organize a Bike Ride this year which will traverse on the Bike Path and into Marblehead.  Tom stated Sundaes on Sunday was a success last year and should be held again.  The group would also like to organize a scavenger hunt for this year.  Tom will reach out to Jim McCallister to see if he can help out with this.  Bil said the prize for the scavenger hunt should be a lunch with the Mayor.

Bil will talk to Peter LaChapelle about using the Salem Athaneum auditorium to show a movie there and getting the kids aboard the Friendship.  Joanne noted the PEM also has an auditorium that the group may be able to use.

Bil said he will not hold the Boot Camp this year.

It was decided that the group will email Tom there ideas for Youth Week and he will create a master list and bring it to the next meeting.

Regional Organization
Joanne stated that she and Tom were contacted by a regional association of area Youth Commissions and they would like Salem to be a part of their group.  Tom and Joanne will be attending their next meeting in Burlington.  Any group member is invited to come too.

Safety Day
The date for Safety Day has been scheduled for September 12th and will be held from 10am – 1pm.  Eileen will draft a letter to the Park & Rec. Commission asking permission to use the Salem Common once again.

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 at 5:00 pm.
The Meeting adjourned at 5:50 pm
