Child Safety Day
Eileen will be going before the Park & Recreation Commission tonight to seek approval for use of the Salem Common for Child Safety Day.  She also stated that she had spoken with Engine House Pizza and said they would be willing to donate some pizza for the event.  She will work to contact others pizza vendors for donations as well.  She stated that representatives from HAWC will most likely not be able to make the event due to another engagement.  She will contact the Animal Shelter and other local veterinarians to see if they will do pet safety demonstrations for Child Safety Day.  Eileen talked to Charlie Arnold and he said it would not be possible to have the port-o-pottie from Winter Island delivered to the Common for Child Safety Day.  Eileen also said she will contact Crosby’s to see if they will donate beverages for the event.

Peter reported that the probation Office will be able to come to the event.  He also talked to the Chief and received approval for everything the group asked him to look into.

Larry spoke to American Red Cross and although they can not send representatives/volunteers to partake in the event, they will mail pamphlets and flyers to us so we may distribute and display them.  Larry will have the pamphlets mailed to Tom’s office.

Tom talked to Frank Taoromina in the City’s Planning Office.  Frank reported to Tom that representatives from the City’s Bike Path Committee will be able to attend and will do bike safety demonstrations, including a Bike Rodeo.

Peter stated, and the Commission agreed, that it would not be wise to conduct a demonstration on gun safety.

Mary said she will organize the Bus Safety demonstration for the event.

Deb had suggested decorating the Common with balloons and tents to make the atmosphere more festive.  Deb will also look into contacting Beverly Nissan to bring a car to the event and have car safety checks done.

Pending approval for use of the Common, Deb, Peter and Mary will map out a plan for where the vendors should be situated on the Common for the event.

Deb had stated that the pr for the event should be issued just before Labor Day.  Flyers for the event will be similar to last year and will be done in Spanish.  They should be distributed to students during the first week of school.

Tom will get the event information on the City website as soon as he can.

The Meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm
