Tuesday, December 11, 2007
5:30 pm

In Attendance:  Deb Amaral, Eileen Dunn, Zachary Broughton, Mary Manning, Donna Condon, Peter Baglioni, Jose Avila, Ann Marie Tanzella, Jodi Goldenberg, Jason Silva, Tom Watkins

Introduction & Outreach
Zachary is continuing to reach out to Salem High students Eric Fiahlo and Chrisanthe Theodorakakis.  Deb will reach out to members of Parents United for Salem.  Meeting minutes for the months of October and November were reviewed and approved.

Snow Shoveling Assistance Program
Tom informed the group about the City’s Snow Shoveling Assistance Program.  The City is currently seeking youth volunteers to assist elderly and disabled individuals with the snow shoveling in front of their house.  Deb had asked that Tom email to the group the information about the program and each group member will do their best to post the information and seek volunteers for the City.

Youth Week
The group discussed ideas and events to hold for Youth Week, which they are planning during the week of April vacation, April 21st – 27th.  The ideas discussed with those who will be taking the lead on them, are as follows:

·       Workshops for FirtJobs (Donna Condon)
·       Tour of the Salem Police Station w/ lunch (Peter Baglioni)
·       3 on 3 B-Ball tournament (Deb)
·       Open swim at the YMCA (Deb)
·       Movie nights at CinemaSalem (Tom will talk to Paul Van Ness)
·       Open skate at Salem State College (Eileen)
·       Discounts at museums and local attractions (Jason & Tom)
·       Sundae on Sunday (Jason will talk to Chuck Puleo)
·       Board games tournament (Ann Marie & Jodi)
·       Battle of the Bands (Tom will talk to Ryan Heath)
·       Trip to Roller Palace in Beverly (Jason & Tom)

Group members also will research what other events are already planned for this same week.  The idea is to find out if any other organizations who are already planning events for that week, would be interested in having their event sponsored by the Youth Commission and thereby incorporating it into Youth Week.  It is important that the Youth Commission not take claim for every youth related event going on that week, unless the organization is willing to partake in Youth Week.  Each group member will email to Tom events/programs which are already being planned for the week of April 21 – 27.

Future Meetings
The Youth Commission would like to continue to meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 5:30 pm.  The next scheduled meeting is set for Tuesday, January 15th, 2008.  Tom will bring a list of meeting dates for the coming year to the next meeting.

The Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm
