Youth Commission
Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, August 21, 2007
5:30 pm

In Attendance:  Eileen Dunn, Zachary Broughton, Jodi Sperling, Ann Marie Tanzella, Deb Amaral (Chair), Donna Condon, James Lister, Capt. Scott McNeil, Arabelis Luciano, Mary Manning, Jason Silva, Tom Watkins  

Introduction
The group introduced themselves and approved the meeting minutes from the last meeting.  Deb said she will reach out to both Peter and Jose about coming to the next meeting.  

Child Safety Day
Deb showed the group the flyer for the event.  Tom said he will post it on the City’s website.  Deb will check on getting a bike safety vendor/rodeo for Child Safety Day.  Mary said the School dept. will have a bus and 2 volunteers at the event to discuss bus safety.  Deb will follow up with Peter Balglioni about having the Police Dept’s. Dive Team there.  Eileen will check out having Life jacket Safety.  Tom will follow up with Shane Rodriguez about the RAD Safety Program.  Deb will check in with DJ Doug to see if he can emcee the event and play music.  James will call NorthShore Ambulance.  Tom will talk to Chief Cody about having the FireHouse available for the event.  

Ann Marie said hot dogs and chips will be made available for the event.  Cape Cod Chips is donating 500 bags of chips.  Eileen will find out about brining grills to the event.  

Deb will talk to Pastor Phil about having someone do some face painting.  She will also touch base with Det. Jimmy Page about Internet Safety.  Deb, James and Ann Marie will try to round up some volunteers from their organizations.  Zachary will talk to National Honor Society students to volunteer.  

Eileen will find out how many tables the Park/Rec. Office has.  Deb will email a final version of the flyer out to the group.  Should there be a chance of rain, the decision for the location change will be made by Jason.  Jason will also get together a press release and send it to the Salem News and Salem Gazette      

City Playgrounds
Ann Marie read off an email she received from Doug Bollen regarding his thoughts on staffing City playgrounds during the summer months.  Eileen said she will discuss with Doug in further detail about a pilot program for next year.  She said such a program will need the approval of the Park/Rec. Commission.  Deb will follow up with Peter about the number of kids who hang around at specific parks.  

Next Meeting
The Youth Commission’s next scheduled meeting is set for September 12, 2007 at 5:30 pm in the 3rd Floor Conference Room of the City Hall Annex Building, located at 120 Washington Street.
