Board of Commissioners of Trust Funds
Minutes of the July 12, 2012 Meeting

Present:  Mayor Driscoll, Raymond Vaillancourt, Thaddeus Buczko,
               and William P. Goreham

The Salem Council on Aging submitted five requests for medication expense reimbursement.  Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve $581.59 from the Endicott Fund for the expenses.  The motion was seconded by Thaddeus Buczko and voted unanimously.

The Salem Council on Aging submitted three additional requests; two for refrigerators and one for an air conditioner for a patient with a medical condition.
After review and discussion, the Board denied the two requests for the refrigerators.  Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the request for an air conditioner for $349.95 from the Endicott Fund.  The motion was seconded by Thaddeus Buczko and voted unanimously.

Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve an $85.00 payment for Robert Lutts’ gift from the Administration Fund.  The motion was seconded by Thaddeus Buczko and voted unanimously.  (Retired as Treasurer of the Board.)

Four statements were received for Read-Smith Picnic expenses.  Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the expenses from the appropriate picnic funds.  The motion was seconded by William P. Goreham and voted unanimously.
(Peppy’s Pizza - $157.50, Salem Lowe - $175.00, Campbell Entertainment - $154.50, Cappys - $95.00)

Raymond Vaillancourt made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 14, 2012 meeting.  The motion was seconded by William P. Goreham and voted unanimously.

Several organizations attended the meeting to present their proposals for FY13 Large Grants.  All grants and funding will be reviewed at the August meeting.  

Boys and Girls Club of Salem – Robo Tech Program ($8,001.00)
Women’s Friend Society – Fuel Assistance  ($4,500.00)
Salem Philharmonic – Browne Fund/Music ($5,500.00)
North Shore Community Action Program - Fuel/Gen Asst ($51,000)
The Salem Pantry – Food ($4,000)
The Plumber Home for Boys – At Risk Youth Program ($10,000)
Joseph’s Storehouse – Food  ($5,000)
North Shore Moving Market – Home delivery of food ($2,000)

Christine Lutts and Beverly McSwiggin representing the “Friends of Greenlawn” attended the meeting.  They explained how the group was formed and their goals for helping Greenlawn Cemetery and the Dickson Chapel improve their current condition.  The Board was able to answer their funding questions.
Although the Board cannot release money to the group for improvement, they appreciated the efforts of Salem residents getting involved in an improvement process for our beautiful cemetery.  We look forward to hearing about the improvements and will respond to all requests from the City of Salem Cemetery Board or the Department of Open Space and will insure all funds are distributed appropriately.  

There being not further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15P.M.
