NEW RESIDENCE HALL UPDATES
  • The existing residence hall on Central Campus will be known as Atlantic Hall, and the new building will be called Marsh Hall.
  • Construction Update (provided by Leif Lamoray, Leftfield Inc. Project Manager):
  • Construction is progressing, with 2/3 of the project complete, and is on track for a July 2010 completion date.
  • The masonry is 99% complete.
  • The roof is up and the building is water tight.
  • The mechanicals are moving along. Most large mechanicals, including the roof mechanicals, have arrived and are already in place.
  • Work on the elevators and interior sheet rock installation has begun.
  • The interior finishes should begin on March 1.
HVAC SYSTEM AT BUILDING 1 UPDATE – NOISE REPORT
  • Andy Soll reviewed the noise report regarding the HVAC system at Building 1 on Central Campus. He explained that the analysis suggests that the noise related to the DX units that cool the data center were the main cause of noise disturbance for this area. He stated that this situation will be rectified when the data center is moved to the brick building on the former Weir property and the DX units are removed, hopefully in late May or early June. He added that the college will take another look at the noise levels in this area once the DX units are removed and will perform another test if deemed necessary.
  • Mr. Soll reviewed the recommendations presented in the report:
  • Remove the DX units from behind Building 1 – As indicated above, this is planned for spring/summerof 2010.
  • Adjust the lock on the compressor room door – The lock on the compressor room door is not able to be opened from outside. Thus, maintenance workers have propped the door open when working on the cooling tower, allowing noise from inside the compressor room to permeate the area. This lock will be changed to allow workers to close the door while working on the cooling tower with the ability to unlock it from the outside when they need to return to the compressor room. This change will take place before the warmer weather when the compressors are turned on.
  • Correct the vibration of the metal frame on the cooling tower – The study recommended that the metal frame be tightened to decrease the vibration. This has already been done and will be checked periodically by the college to ensure that the frame is tight to decrease vibration.
NEW BUSINESS
  • VOTER PARKING – Councillor O’Keefe asked if the parking circle in front of the Enterprise Center would be restored after the construction ceased, making it easier for voters to access the polling location. Mr. Soll responded that the circle will not be put back but that there will be a drop off lane next to the sidewalk that will not interrupt two-way traffic at the corner of the Enterprise Center.
  • John Walsh indicated that there have been concerns with parties in his neighborhood, but that the police have not yet been contacted. Marcia Lambert stated that Chief Tucker and Community Impact Unit representative Officer Dennis King will be attending the South Salem Neighborhood Association meeting in February to discuss the procedure for what to do with neighborhood parties. Beth Bower will also attend this meeting.
MEETING SCHEDULE
  • The next meeting of the SSCNAC will take place on Monday, February 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Enterprise Center Training Room B located on Central Campus at 121 Loring Avenue.
