Recycling Committee Minutes 11/06/2012
SALEM RECYCLES COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 6, 2012 MEETING

Attending:  Erin Huggard, Julie Rose, Nancy Gilberg, Lynn Murray, Jennifer Percy, Janis Breeze, Marcia Lambert, Tony Keck

6:30 pm meeting called to order by chair Erin Huggard.
Minutes for October meeting approved.

New Business:
  • December formal/public meeting will not be held.  An informal gathering of the committee members will be held on 12/4 for a holiday potluck event.  Lynn will circulate an email regarding the event.
  • Facebook update was presented by Nancy.  She wanted to request members to encourage their contacts to “like” events posted on the committee page to help drive interest and gain more viral exposure on Facebook.  Nancy is looking for input on page postings and requested people forward her their ideas, pictures, stories from news or trade information pertaining to recycling/reuse/repurpose and other environmental information for posting on the committee page.  “Like” doesn’t always post on all announcements that are posted on the page, so it has been suggested to create an “interest list” on Facebook to better disburse the site information.
  • A new communications specialist role was presented by Erin and Janis to the committee for consideration.  The role would be to coordinate contact for web, print and other media including social media sites.  Constant Contact use was suggested as tool to assist by Julie, Lynn and Erin.  It is a tool to develop newsletters and circulate them periodically.  Could have multiple articles and graphics on it, i.e. fun facts, announcements, swaps, etc.  Nancy volunteered for the position and is looking for any other member to help out that would like to be involved.  Nancy would be the point person.
  • Twitter account for the committee has been established.  The issue now is use and getting information out there for people to follow the committee on Twitter.  Nancy said she would be looking into this.]
  • GreenSalem.com site not being fully utilized.  Julie and Lynn are looking into getting some training on how to use it.  A discussion about getting others involved with the site and trained on using it/loading it was initiated and a suggestion to put this topic on the January meeting agenda for a full discussion.  Salem IT is willing to assist with the site.
