May 2009
Salem Recycles
May 5, 2009

Attendees:      Julie Rose, Liz Vago, Katie Giddings, Marcia Lambert, Jennifer Percy,                   Penny Neal

Administrative

The committee voted to move the meetings up to 6:30, still the first Tuesday of each month. It was also suggested that the meeting reminder be sent on the Monday before the meeting. Further, the committee voted to officially change the name to Salem Recycles. We also discussed that the SHA will begin recycling on Charter St. once the City receives additional toters which SHA will purchase.

Each Salem Recycles member agreed to reach out to a potential new member prior to the June 2 meeting.   Julie will ask Bob Shea; Liz will ask Lisa Fox; Marcia will ask Rachel from the condo association.

Clean Salem, Green Salem De-brief

Overall great success for the first event.  Positives were e-waste disposal, DJ, tables along the pathways, Rita’s Ice, brainteasers, bin beautification contest and picture taking with the Mayor (kept people engaged) and the start of recycling as part of Clean Sweeps.

Areas for improvement: more visibility for free saplings, more volunteers (often need to draw questions out of residents), more exposure for bin beautification.  Also would place brainteasers so they draw people into the Common (vs. all over town).

Julie will write thank you notes on behalf of Salem Recycles to Ritas, NSC, bin beautification participants, volunteers, Beautification Committee, DJ Doug, Jason and the Mayor.
