Meeting Minutes
Thursday, October 16, 2008
6:30 pm

In Attendance:  Cindy Keegan (Chair), Betsy Horne, John Hayes, Rick Nye
Members not in attendance:  Rob DeRosier (V. Chair), Jeff Barz-Snell, Adam Segal, Nick Lewis
City Staff:  Tom Watkins

Introduction
All those in attendance introduced themselves.  Minutes from the previous meeting were not available at this time.  

SODAR Data
Tom informed the members of the RETF that he talked with Utama from the UMASS RERL and according to him, the preliminary report from the second round of data should be available by late next week.  The final report from UMASS will be available just a few weeks after that.  Cindy asked Tom to ask Utama for al the raw data from both test periods.  Tom will also check with Utama to ask how the collected data would apply for Winter Island and the Plummer Home sites.   

Joint Hearing on Wind Turbine Ordinance
Cindy would like to extend an invitation to Larry Chretian, Tom Michaelman and Alan Taubert to the Joint Hearing for their support of the ordinance.  Tom and Cindy will coordinate with each other on an introduction and approach to the hearing.  

ICLEI & Community Energy Challenge  
John is working on securing a new intern to help out with these projects for the Spring semester.  Cindy will be uploading the school energy use data into the EPA benchmark program soon.  She said this should come in handy for the in-house committee that is being created to look at hiring an Energy Service Company to audit the City’s buildings and schools.

Cindy stated that MTC grant funds can be used to fund a position within the City to work on energy projects and initiatives.

John said he will work on gathering information on local green building ordinances.  

2K Solar Array  
Tom stated that he will be working with Al Hill, Paul L’Hereux and David Beavers of the Cadmus Group on creating the RFP for the 2K Solar Array.  Cindy asked if some students at Salem High School could partake in the installation process as part of a learning project.  Tom will inquire about this.  

Other Business
John stated that he is chairing the Earth Day Committee at Salem State College again this year.  He informed the group that this year’s events will be held from April 13th – 17th, 2009 at SSC.  This year’s theme will revolve around water quality and pollution issues.  

Rick provided the group with his thoughts on the Energy Roundtable Discussion hosted by Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office.
