Meeting Minutes
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
7:00 pm

In Attendance:  Cindy Keegan (Chair), Rob DeRosier (V. Chair), John Hayes, Betsy Horne, Rick Nye
Members not in attendance:  Adam Segal, Nick Lewis, Jeff Barz-Snell
Meeting Start:  6:30 pm

Green-Up Decals
It was reported that the Green-Up decals went through another round of design to make them look more like a CFL.  Katie Giddings will report back to the RETF when she is finished with the design.

Wind Turbine Ordinance Update
Tom provided an update to the group.  He will email the RETF to see if a 6:00 pm time works for the group’s next meeting with representatives from the Planning Department to discuss the questions raised at the last meeting about the proposed wind turbine ordinance.  He will also notify City Council members of this meeting.

Living Green & Renewable Energy Fair
The group had a discussion about sustainable health care, and how such a vendor would fit into the mission of the Fair.  It was decided that such groups do and the subcommittee will begin opening invites to these groups.

Tom will email John the RETF logo he needs to put on his Carbon Footprint handout.  The group made suggestions to John for his handout.  John will make 75 copies of the handout for the Fair.

Cindy reported tot the group that the Green-Up program deadline has been extended to June 30th and she would like to encourage people at the Fair to sign up for this program.  She will continue working on how to best have people sign up.

Rob will have the Fair flyer translated to Spanish in order for it to be distributed through the schools.

Tom will confirm the availability of the City’s hybrid for the event and will check to see if the T3’s will be available from the Police Department.

Big Belly Advertising
It was discussed that there is no need to require ads to be laminated since there is a plastic covering that comes with each ad panel on the Big Belly.  This will also make it cheaper for businesses and organizations to make ads.  To will check on which Belly’s have broken ad panels and which ones have plastic coverings missing.

Tom informed the group that the City will be using about half of the available MTC matching grant funds to purchase more Big Belly units.  In all, the City will purchase 6 Big Belly units, 4 Recycling Kiosks, 4 standalone paper recycler units and 3 standalone bottle/can recycler units.  The MTC money will be used to purchase only the 6 big Belly units.  The rest of the units will be purchased with money from an available recycling grant account the City has.  Tom also shared with the group the Big Belly street analysis which representatives of Big Belly had done for the City.

Members of the RETF expressed frustration over not being involved in the Big Belly purchase, especially since part of the purchase was made with the MTC funds.
