The Park and Recreation Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 6:45P.M. at the Park, Recreation and Community Center located at 5 Broad Street.

Introduction to William Hanger, new Manager at Winter Island.
Sail Salem Boat Storage
Jason Yarrington requested boat storage inside the Hanger at Winter Island for the boats from the Sail Salem program.
Pat Curtin made a motion to approve the storage inside the Hanger pending approval from city building inspector Tom St.Pierre and they provide their own insurance. Laura Swanson second

Brian Chorney- requested use of McCabe Marina for Regatta on October 31.
Laura Swanson made a motion to approve the use of McCabe Marina for the launching area for the Regatta to be held on October 31 from 6am to 1pm hosted by Endicott College. Amy Everitt second.

Tom Watkins, Jonathan Marque and Jeff Barz Snell spoke on behalf of the Renewable Energy Task Force about the possibly doing a sonar study at Winter Island and placing a Met Tower for 6-12 months to study the wind strength. The group would like to do a site visit and host a public hearing.
Laura Swanson made a motion to approve the Park and Recreation Commission to host a public meeting and site visit at Winter Island on Saturday, August 29 at 9am.and they would like a copy of the UMass study as soon as possible to review before meeting.
The Renewable Energy Committee will report it's site location recommendation to the Park and Recreation Commission at the September Meeting. The Park and Recreation Commission will schedule a public hearing at 6:00pm to hear the recommendations of the Renewable Energy Commission and allow the public an opportunity to ask questions.
