John Goff – Pioneer Village report/ hand out
2008’s goal is fundraising for the Village and to continue the restoration work.
Fence reconstruction and repair
Reconstruction of the Dugouts (houses built on the hillside)
James Shea asked that Mr. Goff provide the handouts prior to the meeting so the Commission could have read the information being presented.
An RFP for Pioneer Village will be discussed later in the meeting.
Kerri Cahill – Rebel Shakespeare
Last summer was a huge success with 3000 people coming to see the show, free of charge. There were low numbers last year.
James Shea said that there have been promises to make a donation and it has not come through. If it happens that would be great.
The tuition is $800.00 for 4-week program.
There were 25 full paying students and 25 partial scholarships.
Kerri said she gave donations in the form of an air conditioner, the children cleaned up the island and they donated a lot of goods to Charlie Arnold such as staplers, scissors, hammers and other things.
Chris Burke asked why is Winter Island so important to you? Or would another park work? Is it too crowded at Winter Island? Kerri Cahill responded by saying that Winter Island is a big draw. She loves the atmosphere, the ocean and the great fort that they get to work with. Next year is the 20th year and she would like to keep it at Winter Island till them for the 20th year event.
Mary Ann Curtin would like to know how she intends to increase her enrollment. She would like to have a workshop at the Salem school system. She has seen a lot of Salem interest already.
Pat Curtin said that she should get a fundraiser planned and going to make a sincere effort.
Parking is around the back of the hanger and is not allowed to park in the general parking lot. Performances are at 1:00 & 5:00. Kerri Cahill scheduled the shows for weekdays because Charlie Arnold told her she could not schedule weekend shows. She has made Thursday and Friday show dates. If that fails because it is on the weekday she will be back to request for her shows for the next group be on a weekend. Laura Swanson asked her to check with the parents and check if they will be all right with the weekday scheduled shows.
The Commission would like to invite Charlie Arnold to the next meeting to discuss the whole situation.
