Minutes
Thursday, March 3, 2011
7:00 p.m.
120 Washington Street, 3rd~Floor

Present: Meghann Ackerman, Lucy Corchado, Jeff Cox, Tom Daniel, Leslie Limon, Perry McIntosh, Jim Moskovis (chair), Rosemary O’Connor, Jim Rose, Jason Silva

Parking Study Results: Tom Daniel said the results of the parking study showed that 76% of respondents said convenience and location of spots mattered most, but only 10% said price was the biggest concern. There are 13 different types of parking downtown and the pricing and availability is unbalanced.

The City Council adopted the goal of having 15% on-street availability. Some ways looked at to achieve that goal including changing parking costs, simplifying parking rules and adding new monthly passes.

Jeff Cox asked if there would be changes to the High Street lot; Tom Daniel said there wouldn’t be. Jeff Cox said there should have been more neighborhood input.

Lucy Corchado pointed out that Shetland Park workers have been parking on Peabody and Ward streets.

Perry McIntosh asked about the make up of the proposed parking board. Tom Daniel said it would probably include residents and business people.

Other business: Rosemary O’Connor said Jim McAllister would be speaking at the Mack Park meeting on March 8.

Susan Yokelson handed out flier about Salem Sound Coastwatch’s 20th anniversary.

The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
