Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves.

Water meter replacement: City Engineer David Knowlton explained that over the next two years, the City would replace around 10,000 water meters with new meters. The new meters will use radio transmission (they have a licensed bandwidth) for readings and there will be seven collection sites set up throughout the City. He said the new system will be integrated with GIS and that the Water Department will be able to pinpoint leaks and problems in the system.

The new meters could mean that the Water Department would be able to move to a monthly billing system.

Jim Rose asked how the new meters would affect large properties. David Knowlton said the new meters would be more accurate, so some customers’ bills will go up. Jason Silva said there would be no retro billing if it was found that a customer had been under billed for water.

Jeff Cox asked about the City would ensure new meters could be installed. David Knowlton said letters would be sent out explaining the meter replacement program and asking residents to set up an appointment to have the work done. If, after several attempts at trying to set up an appointment, a resident was uncooperative the City would be able to go into the house and just do the work.

The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
