Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves.

Public Comment: Jeff Cox asked what could be done about double polls. Jason Silva said Sen. Berry, Rep. Keenan and Mayor Driscoll wrote a letter to utility companies requesting a meeting. Jim Rose and Lucy Corchado both suggested that the City use the ability to do additional work as a bargaining chip to encourage the companies to fix the polls.

Halloween wrap-up: Jason asked that people tell their neighbors about the Haunted Happenings survey Destination Salem had put out.

Jeff asked if there was a negative reaction to the beer tent and how much Haunted Happenings could grow. Jason said there were no problems reported with the beer tent and that the City can’t control how many people come, but will continue to encourage safety and the use of public transportation.

North Shore CDC: Mickey Northcutt explained that the Beverly Affordable Housing Coalition and the Salem harbor CDC merged in August to for the North Shore CDC. The organization mostly focuses on affordable housing.

Jim Rose asked if the NSCDC did any advocacy work around the issue of foreclosure. Mickey said there had been a foreclosure task force, but that foreclose wasn’t as big a problem in Salem as in some communities.

The NSCDC owns about 300 properties in Salem and Beverly and is planning renovations in Salem. Mickey said they are working with volunteers in The Point Neighborhood on quality of life issues and they hope to expand to other parts of the City.

Jeff and Jim Moskovis both said there are problems with landlords who do not keep up their properties. Mickey said the NSCDC has bought a number of problem properties in Salem.
