A meeting of the Board of Trustees was held this date at 4:02 p.m. at the Library with Trustees Buckley, Clarke, Little, Merry, Shea present and Trustee Yale present and presiding.  Ms. Jackson was present.

Approval of Minutes of February 19, 2009        UNANIMOUS

Current Library Use and Financial Reports were distributed.  Ms. Jackson reported on the increasing circulation figures.  In bad economic times more people rely on the public library.

Ms. Jackson reported that she met with Mayor Driscoll and Finance Director Rich Viscay to discuss the FY10 Library budget.  Miss Jackson reported that she stressed the importance of the library to the community and that deep cuts to the budget would do serious damage to the Library’s operations.  The Mayor did not approve the Library budget because the city still did not know how much state aid would be coming to the city.  All city budgets are in flux.  Trustee Merry stressed the importance to the community of the Library being open on Sundays.

Ms. Jackson reported on the Library walkway project.  The work is scheduled to begin next week.

Miss Little informed the Trustees about an exhibit at the Massachusetts Historical Commission called “Tracing Our Roots”.  The exhibit tells the story of four representative Massachusetts families of Native American, English, African-American and Irish heritage.  The Little family is one of the families highlighted.

Meeting adjourned at 5:00p.m.
