HOMELESS OUTREACH PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES
September 15, 2010

A meeting of the Homeless Outreach Program Advisory Committee was held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 10:00 am at 120 Washington Street, Salem, MA.  Present were Carlton Beaver and Christopher Fitzgerald of Lifebridge and Jane Guy of the City of Salem Department of Planning and Community Development.

Mr. Beaver introduced Mr. Fitzgerald as a new Outreach Worker, noting that he works in the AM, while Mr. Fitzgerald works in the PM.  Mr. Fitzgerald stated that he has been with Lifebridge for two years.  Ms. Guy encouraged Mr. Fitzgerald to visit one or two businesses each time he patrols in order to introduce himself to the owners and employees.

Ms. Guy provided those present with a copy of the 2010 Haunted Happenings event guide and reviewed the dates of family events that she encouraged the Outreach Worker(s) to have a presence.  She stated that it is not necessary that the Outreach Worker stay for entire events, but rather make an appearance whenever possible.

Ms. Guy provided a Draft flyer regarding the Downtown Outreach Program.  Ms. Guy will add Mr. Fitzgerald’s name to the flyer and will forward the finalized version to Mark Cote prior to printing copies for the Outreach Workers to distribute to businesses, etc.

Mr. Beaver stated that he will talk to Christine Cericola at Lifebridge about asking the Salem Police Department to periodically (once or twice a week) patrol the train tunnels for homeless individuals.

The next meeting will be April 20, 2011.
