Minutes - June 10, 2006

SALEM HISTORICAL COMMISSION
        MINUTES OF SITE VISIT
47 OSGOOD STREET - JUNE 10, 2006

A site visit by the Salem Historical Commission was held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. at  47 Osgood Street, Salem MA.  Present were Commissioners Desrocher, Spang, Harpor and Herbert.

The purpose of the site visit was to view the property owned by Debora Dawkins, for which an application to Waive the Demolition Delay Ordinance has been submitted.

An inspection of the structure found insect and water damage, failing foundation and settling in the roof line in some areas.  There are exposed rafters and wide pine floors.  There were some obvious second floor cracks and the brick work on the fireplaces was in very poor conditions.  The doors were original and the fireplace mantels are likely salvageable.  The owner states that the first floor side room was originally built as a horse stall.

Those present discussed the possibility of salvage and agreed that the best course was to work with the owner to have the replacement structure be as sympathetic to the neighborhood as possible.

There being no further business, Ms. Harper made a motion to adjourn.  Mr. Spang seconded the motion, all were in favor and the motion so carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Douglas Desrocher
