MINUTES- 01-05-2012 SPECIAL MEETING
        A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in City Council Chambers on
Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 6:30 P.M. for the purpose of taking up the Petition from National Grid to install conduits on Technology Way and a Resolution for the Salem Fire Department.  Notice of this meeting was posted on January 3, 2012 at  10:31  A.M.


Councillor Carr was recorded as absent.

        
Council President Joan B. Lovely presided.


#4 – RESOLUTION SALEM FIRE DEPARTMENT


Councillor Prevey introduced the following Resolution, which was adopted by a roll call vote of 10 years, 0 nays, 1 absent. Councillors Furey, O’Keefe, McCarthy, Prevey, Ryan, Sargent, Siegel, Sosnowski, Turiel and Lovely were recorded as voting in the affirmative. Councillor Carr was recorded as absent.


RESOLUTION:

WHEREAS:        The Salem Fire Department has served the City over the decades since its first formation two centuries ago; and

WHEREAS:        The members of the Salem Fire Department have always risen to the occasion to fight many of the historical fires in Salem, namely the Great Salem Fire of 1914, and many others; and

WHEREAS:        The many men and women over the long history of the Salem Fire Department have put their lives on the line in the defense of  the lives and property within the City and in surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS:        The primary mission of the Salem Fire Department is to provide the citizenry protection, rescue and information against the threats  of fire, sudden medical emergencies, and exposure to dangerous conditions created by either humans or nature.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of Salem, does hereby recognize the countless acts of courage, bravery, heroism and sacrifice exhibited by the members of the Salem Fire Department throughout our City’s history, and that they should be recognized and honored for such acts by this City Council and the entire City of Salem.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council makes this Resolution a matter of record of these proceedings, and that a suitable copy of this Resolution is presented to the Salem Fire Department.


#5 – MEET WITH PARKING COMMISSION REGARDING RECOMMENDATION TO THE “PARKING LOT”

        Councillor McCarthy introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

        ORDER: That the Committee on Ordinances, Licenses and Legal Affairs meet to take up the matter of the recommendations made by the Parking Commission relative to the “Parking Lot” and that Jim Hacker or his representative be invited.


#6 – PETITION FROM NATIONAL GRID FOR CONDUITS ON TECHNOLOGY WAY

        A hearing was ordered for January 12, 2012 on the petition from National Grid to install 4-6’ conduits for #4 Technology Way.



        On the motion of Councillor O’Keefe the meeting adjourned at 6:45 P.M.
