MINUTES JANUARY 6, 2003 ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
        A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 6:00 P.M. for the purpose of organizing city government for the year 2003.  Notice of this meeting was posted on December 27, 2002 at 10:49 a.m.

        All Councillors were present.

        City Clerk Deborah E. Burkinshaw called the meeting to order, and Councillor Leonard F. O'Leary, Senior Member, assumed the Chair.

        Acting President O’Leary called upon Councillors Flynn and Harvey to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

        Acting President O'Leary thanked out-going President Flynn, and presented her with a gift.

#1 - ELECTION OF PRESIDENT

        Councillor O'Keefe introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

Ordered:  That the City Council proceed to organize for 2003 by the election of a president.

Councillor DeToma nominated Councillor Furey.

Councillor Bencal seconded the nomination.

Councillor O’Keefe moved that nominations be closed.  It was so voted.

Councillor Thomas Furey was elected President of the City Council for the year 2003 by a unanimous roll call vote of 11 Councillors voting for Councillor Furey.

Acting President O'Leary appointed Councillors Sargent and DeToma to escort newly elected President Furey to the rostrum.

President Furey thanked the City Council for electing him President.

#2 - RULES AND REGULATIONS

        Councillor Lovely introduced the following order, which was adopted.  

        ORDERED:  That the rules and regulations of the City Council for the year 2002 be adopted as the rules and regulations for the year 2003, and that the same be suspended for this meeting.

#4 - MAYOR ADDRESS COUNCIL

        Councillor Flynn introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

        ORDERED:  That his Honor the Mayor be invited to address the members of the City Council at this session.

        President Furey then introduced Mayor Usovicz, who gave his State of the City Address, and thanked him at the close of his address.

        On the motion of Councillor Sargent, the meeting adjourned at 7:00 P.M.
