MINUTES - MAY 17, 2001 SPECIAL MEETING REDISTRICTING

A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on  Thursday, May 17, 2001 at 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of taking action on the Redistricting Plan for the Wards and Precincts in the City of Salem, under the provisions  of Chapter 54, Sections 1 and 2 of the Massachusetts General Laws.  Notice of this meeting was posted on May 11, 2001 at 3:30 P.M.

Councillors Harvey, Hayes, O'Leary, O'Keefe, and LaCava were absent.

Council President Joan B. Lovely presided.

Councillor Flynn moved to dispense with the reading of the record of the previous meeting.  It was so voted.

AD-HOC COMMITTEE REPORT TO AUTHORIZE CITY CLERK TO PROCEED WITH COMPILING REDISTRICTING PLAN

Councillor Flynn offered the following report for the Ad-Hoc Committee on Redistricting.  It was voted to accept the report and adopt the recommendation.

The Ad-Hoc Committee on Redistricting, to whom was referred the matter of redistricting the Ward and Precinct boundaries in the City of Salem, under the provisions of Chapter 54 Sections 1 and 2 of Massachusetts General Laws, has considered said matter and would recommend that the City clerk proceed to compile the necessary paperwork for final adoption of the redistricting plan and accompanying Ordinances on Thursday, May 24, 2001.

        
On the motion of Councillor Flynn, the meeting adjourned at 6:55 P.M.
