MINUTES - JANUARY 8, 2001
http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/word/2003/wordml013f        A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on Monday, January 8, 2001 at 6:00 P.M. for the purpose of organizing city government for the year 2001.  Notice of this meeting was posted on December 21, 2000 at 2:50 P.M.

        All Councillors were present.

        City Clerk Deborah E. Burkinshaw called the meeting to order, and Councillor Leonard F. O'Leary, Senior Member, assumed the Chair.

        Acting President O'Leary thanked out-going President Harvey, and presented him with a gift.

#1 - ELECTION OF PRESIDENT

        Councillor O'Keefe introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

Ordered:  That the City Council proceed to organize for 2001 by the election of a president.

Councillor Sargent nominated Councillor Lovely.

Councillor LaCava seconded the nomination.

Councillor Harvey moved that nominations be closed.  It was so voted.

Councillor Joan Lovely was elected President of the City Council for the year 2001 by a roll call vote of 10 votes for Councillor Lovely, and 1 vote for Councillor Furey.  Councillors DeToma, Driscoll, Flynn, Harvey, Hayes, LaCava, Lovely, O'Keefe, O'Leary, and Sargent were recorded as voting in the affirmative.  Councillor Furey was recorded as voting for Councillor Furey.

Councillor Furey moved that the vote be made unanimous.  It was so voted.

Acting President O'Leary appointed Councillors O'Keefe and Sargent to escort newly elected President Lovely to the rostrum.

President Lovely thanked the City Council for electing her President.

#2 - RULES AND REGULATIONS

        Councillor DeToma introduced the following order, which was adopted.  

ORDERED:  That the rules and regulations of the City Council for the year 2000 be adopted as the rules and regulations for the year 2001, and that the same be suspended for this meeting.

#3 - POCKET MANUAL

        Councillor Driscoll introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

ORDERED:  That the City Clerk be and hereby is authorized and directed to have printed a pocket manual for the use of the members of the City Council and City Officers.  Said sum to be charged to the regular appropriation of the City Council.

#4 - MAYOR ADDRESS COUNCIL

        Councillor Furey introduced the following Order, which was adopted.

ORDERED:  That his Honor the Mayor be invited to address the members of the City Council at this session.

        President Lovely then introduced Mayor Usovicz, who gave his State of the City Address, and thanked him at the close of his address.

        On the motion of Councillor Flynn, the meeting adjourned at 6:45 P.M.
