City Council Agenda 01/03/2013 Special Meeting


A Special Meeting of the City Council was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday,

January 03, 2013 at 7:00 P.M., for the purpose of filling the vacancy of the Councillor At Large seat as a result of the resignation of Councillor Joan B. Lovely, in accordance with Salem City Charter Section 59A which reads as follows  “If a vacancy occurs at any time in the office of a councilor elected by and from the qualified voters of the city, such vacancy shall be filled forthwith by a majority vote of all the remaining members of the city council for the remainder of the unexpired term”

Notice of this meeting was posted on December 27, 2012 at 5:06 P.M.
        

       Absent were:

       Senior Councillor and acting President  O’Keefe presided.

       President O’Keefe read the following rules.


  • Councillors will vote alphabetically by roll call vote with President voting last.
  • President will accept Yea and Nay or present votes. Present votes will be counted.
  • To fill the vacancy of the Councillor At Large position an individual must receive a majority vote of all the remaining members of Council. Per City Charter Section 59A.
       (10 Councillors remaining would require 6 votes)


City Clerk, Cheryl LaPointe, to read the resignation letter from Councillor At Large Joan B. Lovely.


Council President O’Keefe - each candidate will have two (2) minutes to speak.


The following are candidates for the position of Councillor At Large in alphabetical order.



1. Lucy Corchado – 1 Chase Street, Apt. #2

2. William H. Legault – 2 Orne Street

3. Steven A. Pinto – 55 Columbus Avenue

4. Kenneth A. Sawicki – 40 School Street

5.Christopher O. Sicuranza – 7 Cedar Street

6. Robert J. Wright – 1 Essex St.
