City Committee representative Ellen Talkowsky manages the process.  Projects the Committee wants to support were discussed.  It was suggested that all the traffic islands be inventoried to identify which need attention and which could use to have their curbs painted.  Irrigating the islands was also considered.  The Mayor’s “Tree Lawn” project is to be reviewed.  Plans to hold a fundraiser in the fall were discussed.

Upcoming Events:  It was reported that the Destination Salem Banner sponsorship program will provide seasonal and special occasion banners.  Potential participation in the program was discussed.  The Committee’s active “Lady of Salem figurehead program was noted.  It was suggested that the “Ladies of Salem” figureheads would benefit by being lighted at night. Problems with removing and refiguring a problematic south Salem traffic island were detailed.  .  Clean Sweeps is scheduled for May 3, 2014.  Salem Recycles will also be based on the Common this year.  The Plant Sale will be held on May 17th and May 18th.  It was suggested that the hours run from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday and 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Sunday.  It was agreed that the plant carts and the raffles were well received.  It was suggested that old tools and old magazines could be welcomed as “give aways.”  And that indoor plants were also welcomed.  A brochure listing all of our projects will be developed.

4.  Volunteer Roundtable:  Suggestions for engaging volunteers included contacting the Neighborhood Associations, publishing related flyers and posters at the end of March, providing advertising materials in various locations, use of the Committee’s website and others.  Signup sheets should be made available.
