Recreation Committee Meeting January 14th, 2015

Open Session:
Sheila informed us that Sharon from the council on aging director passed away.
Discussed pros and cons of having a pool director with Sheila. Committee needs to decide if that’s the route they want to go or add the hours for the rec director to run the pool. We also need to figure out where we can save additional funds with the pool. One thing that was discussed was that lifeguards were given 20 minute break for every hour worked.
Questions about teachers running programs after schools and if they have to go through recreation and is recreation taking 40% of the fees.
New Business:
Mother / Son Event
Everyone seemed to have fun. The event made $205. Susan used Dicks Sporting Goods Cards for some prizes and had a few dollars left so bought some stuff for summer fun.
UTLT
All programs have good turnout. Legos had to be cancelled due to lack of registrations. We may want to look into a more affordable Lego class.
Susan and Pam brought up the idea of a game club as something else to do in the winter months.
Dodgeball
Its $25 per person through FAST ATHLETICS which is very expensive.
We need to go watch another town do this and see how they do it.
Basketball
Not enough girls for 7th and 8th grade so we had to refund.
The gym expense and expenses in general for basketball are very, very high. We will need to look into this more to see where we can cut costs.
Enrollment is way down but fees will be the same. We might be in danger of paying out more than we make.
Question if we pay for gym time on Sunday that is not used (4 hour minimum). This seems to be a waste of money and could be one of the roots of our problems. Pam will check on this.
Parents are making comments as to where is George…where as George does not need to be at everything.
Safe Place
Nothing to report. Everything well into the black.
Pool Manager
We need to think if this is the way to go. Pam to do some poking around with Holden and Paxton to see how those pools are run so we can base our decision on something.
Pool Pass Policy
Will do 25% off for town employees and town committee members on full summer pool pass.
Summer Fun
Thinking of bringing back Kelly White to be Summer Fun Director and gauge her interest. Possibly see if she has ideas of how it can run better.
Look into extended hours to do 7:30 to 5:30 so parents can use it more like Safe Place.
Budget meeting
January 28th to start putting stuff together
7Pm town Hall
Father / Daughter Dance 2/7/15
Jen has a group of volunteers that said they will help. Susan will make a play list.
Need people to donate some stuff. $20 per couple $5 each additional child.
Easter Egg Hunt
March 28th, same set up as last year
We need to get stakes and caution tape.
Family Skate Day
January 31st, Pam needs to make a flyer because she can’t find it.
Skates are not included!!
