April 26, 2012
Board of Selectmen
April 26, 2012
Community Center
7:00 pm

Present:  Joseph R. Becker, Chairman; Michael Pantos, Vice-Chairman; Peter Letsky, Clerk; Sheila H. Dibb, Leroy C. Clark and Nancy M. Macaruso, Secretary.

Also present:  Karen Croke, Director of Recreation; Beth Potvin, Gary Ward, Stephanie Smith, Katelyn Wojnarowicz and Julia Ducharme.

The Board discussed the upcoming budget cycle / cuts and the possibility of closing the Community Center or not funding in the general fund.  Summer Fun programs will be affected and the Board suggested that the Recreation Committee begin looking at other venues.

Some discussion on the fees not aligning with expenditures and the need to possibly increase fees in the near future.  Mrs. Ducharme strongly recommended leaving the fees as they are due to the present economy.

Chairman Becker is concerned with the Director working “from home” on Fridays as there is no policy in place to do so.  Mrs. Ducharme feels this position is unique and more flexible than other town departments.  Some discussion on the need to have set office hours for the Recreation Director and town computers for both directors.  All agreed that some adjustments need to be made. Ms. Potvin thanked the Board and stated the job description will be discussed at next month’s meeting.

Marianne Gemme, Safe Place employee, came to the meeting to inform the Selectmen that at times the children attending Under the Learning Tree programs at the schools, which are run through Recreation, are left unsupervised and the Safe Place employees step in and help.  This puts them in a difficult position because these children aren’t registered Safe Place attendees and it puts them over their licensed number of children.  Mr. Ward would like to be informed whenever there are concerns such as these.

ADJOURN:
Mr. Clark moved to adjourn.  Mr. Pantos seconded.  Vote unanimous.  Meeting adjourned at 8 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy M. Macaruso, Secretary
Board of Selectmen
