Minutes of the Board of Assessors' Meeting held on March 10, 2015 in the Assessors' Office located in
the Town Hall.
Members Present: Arthur Lincoln (Chair), Joyce McGuinness (Member), Jeffrey Gibbs (Member),
Diane Peterson (Regional Assessor, RRG) and Justine Lapierre (Assessors' Clerk)
Board Members Absent: None
Meeting brought to order at 8:30 a.m.
The following discussions took place:
• The BOA discusses the idea of lowing the qualifying age for the elderly statutory exemption
from 70 to 65. The BOA believes that only 5% of the eligible tax payers would qualify. If this
increased amount of exemptions was broken up between household tax bills, it would be just a
$2. 75 difference per bill. The BOA will get information from the town of Berlin, who recently
lowered the qualifying age from 70 to 65, as to how any more people qualified. The BOA will
also get a report of all taxpayers who are 70 or older, to see what percentage of these taxpayers
are currently receiving the exemption.
o Jeff motions to increase the exemption amount from $750 to $1,000 and to lower the age
re~uirement from 70 to 65
o 2° Arthur
o All in favor
• As the motion has passed, the BOA will submit to the Selectmen a request to place this item as a
Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting for taxpayers to vote on. h,;r
