May 7, 2013 Open Space Committee Meeting Minutes
Present: Jim Samdahl, Deb Cary, Kelton Burbank, Kim Houde, Karen Rossow
Guests: Tom Sullivan of PLT, Nannette Fitzgerald of Parks & Rec, Joe Lotuff of PLT, the Nimrod Club

Meeting began at 7:30 pm.
Nimrod Rod & Gun Club: want to find new uses for their land. This ties in with our town-wide trail map system. We would incorporate the motorized trails but develop non-motorized trails. Nimrod feels that it benefits everyone to preserve and promote open space. Of approximately 450 acres they can utilize about 100 for structures and shooting ranges, etc. The rest is in a conservation restriction with the DCR. They want to research other uses to benefit new, younger members as well as our community. Many suggestions made about connecting lots of trails to their land.
Smith Farm: Tom Sullivan gave us an update on the Smith Farm negotiations. They want to sell the property to PLT and Mass Audubon (if a price can be successfully negotiated), so those two organizations are expecting to fund a professional appraisal. They will seek a Landscape Partnership with the state.
Open Space and Rec Plan Update: Karen should have it ready to mail to the state on May 15th.
Bridge update: Possible plantings date June 1st. Kim will check with Doug Williams and Phil Gryzb. Hopefully to include staining as well. Karen will email all to select a date.
Minutes of March 26th meeting approved.
Trails subcommittee: hasn’t made any progress yet but will work on them.
Next meeting June 11th, the second Tuesday of the month, followed by July 9th, both at 730 pm in the Town Hall Annex.
