Minutes of the Princeton Historical Commission
February 26, 2015
Town Hall Annex, 7 PM

Attendees:  Joyce Anderson, Sheila Dubman, Joe Lee, Matt Lindberg and Mickey Splaine.
Guest: Phyllis Booth

Members accepted the meeting minutes from January, 2015.

Four Corners NR Update:
  • Mass Historic has accepted the Four Corners as a National Register District.
  • Joyce has sent letters to all of the property owners in the District to inform them that the district has been accepted and to invite them to meet with the PHC and a Mass Historic representative on March 4 (snow date: 3/9). All PHC members were encouraged to attend.
  • Joyce reminded us that a copy of the nomination is available at the library.
  • There will be a meeting on 3/11 in Boston to formally accept the Four Corners as a national Register District.
  • The group agreed to commit our current budget for a down payment of a standing marker for Four Corners, pending final acceptance of the District.
Town Building Tour and Sudy Meeting:
  • Joyce reported that she participated and addressed our concerns about the second floor of Bagg Hall. The consulting engineers expressed the conclusion that the weight of stored materials did not present a problem and that the Princeton Center building is the focus of their concern.
Town Common Guidelines:
  • Sheila has resent the draft and Mickey has made an addition, requesting that any changes to the Common be subject to a 2/3 Town Meeting vote.
  • Joyce introduced the concept of a series of charrettes to engage residents in accepting the concept of restricting changes to the Town Common and to solicit changes to the guidelines. The group agreed to do this.
Meeting House Cemetery:
Joe reported on preliminary cost estimates for restoration of the Brook Family railing. It was agreed that further research is needed.
Casting of Daniel Parkhurst’s Headstone:
Sheila has been contacted by the Gravestone Girls about our interest in having them make castings of the Parkhurst headstone. Sheila will respond and get more information about the costs and the variety of options available. We plan on giving one cast to the couple who donated the stone and will explore additional options as items for sale.
Other:
  • The group agreed to postpone further action on NHR listing of Boylston Manor
  • Sheila agreed to send meeting postings to members prior to meetings.
Next Meeting: March 19, 2015
Respectfully submitted, Mickey Splaine and Sheila Dubman
