Richard opened the meeting at 7:05 pm.
JWA update: the revised version of their proposal is approved and funded.
Rick commented that after the presentation by KW at the last meeting there has been no further contact from them.
Rick contacted the Central Mass Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) regarding Chapter 149A; the design build process (also referred to as the Construction Manager at Risk). This is an alternative method to the design-bid-build process of construction facilities. Rick received some information, including the names of 5 towns that have used this approach. There are certain stages of action that have to be followed but this process could result in cost savings and reduce the time to complete the project. He will continue to gather information about this.
We agreed the town should ask other communities that have received funding through a state bond bill what they did in the process to get the funding.
We discussed the FSC’s need for an additional member and several people are being contacted. The FSC will have a representative at the volunteer fair on Feb. 2.
Richard will send an email to the police and fire chiefs letting them know where we are with JWA so they can be thinking about their needs in a new facility.
