2019-02-21 SB min.
Town of Princeton, Mass., Selectboard Meeting Minutes
– Feb. 21, 2019 – 8:30 AM – Town Hall Annex

Present:  Chair Richard Bisk, Karen Cruise, Edith Morgan and Town Administrator Nina Nazarian.

8:45 AM~~Meeting called to order.

Discussion of strategy re the bond bill – Karen brought up a couple of suggestions for how SB might make progress on getting money for the new public safety center from the Governor’s bond bill.

One suggestion, originally from FSC2, was to talk to former bond bill recipients about how they went about getting money. Karen agreed to work with Richard Chase to identify good people to talk with and to begin the conversations.

Another suggestion was to work with Rep. Kim Ferguson to set up a meeting in Boston with, ideally, Kim, Senator Chandler, and Lt Governor Karen Polito to talk with them about our public safety center issues. It was agreed that it might be ideal to have all 3 SB members, Nina, Fire Chief John Bennett, Police Chief Michele Powers, and perhaps a current or former member of the FSC attend. Richy was named the spokesperson for the group. It was agreed that the group would bring photos of existing conditions and, perhaps, a town-related gift for our hosts.

Karen also brought up the possibility of seeing if the Landmark would like to interview the police and fire chiefs on their needs.

Members of the SB stressed the urgency of increasing their efforts to secure bond bill funding. Karen and Edie both expressed concern that preliminary estimates for stabilizing the Annex and station 1/police station are coming in significantly higher than expected. Given that the long-term plan is to build a new public safety center and demolish the annex, both expressed a desire to not continue to pour money into repairs.

Editing of the letter to residents on who is who in Town Hall –  Edie, Richy, and Nina provided several small edits to the letter to residents that Karen had drafted.

ACTION~– Board voted all in favor~to accept the letter from the Selectboard to residents on who is who in town hall subject to the suggested edits.

Discuss potential topics for next communication to residents – One topic that was discussed for a future communication is an update on building stabilization. No date was selected for a discussion of that topic.

Discuss alternative times/options to the SB at Town Buzz sessions – passed over until another time

Adjourn 10:10 AM

Respectfully submitted, Karen Cruise, Selectboard member
