Executive Session Minutes  -  BOARD OF SELECTMEN

Executive Session

6:45 PM  Selectmen took roll call vote in regular session and opened executive session. The Selectmen discussed the Fire Chief’s contract and the potential conflicts with the “Final Rule” updating overtime regulations signed by President Obama, regarding minimum salary levels for “exempt” employees. Nina indicated that she was working with HR Counsel to review the contract to ensure it was prepared in compliance with the law, slated to go into effect on December 1st. The difficulty with the final rule was that an injunction was recently filed by the state of Texas, effectively freezing the rule from going into effect. The Board had some discussions about options, and finally Jon suggested that the contract be written in such a way that it has a clause to allow the Board to revisit compensation if the law requires it.
Nina updated the Board of Selectmen regarding the Board of Assessors search for a Principal Assessor. Nina described the wages which the Board of Assessors were proposing for the potential new Principal Assessor. Nina reported the need to be equitable with other similar positions, and expressed that between the Assessors request, the selected individual and similar positions, she was comfortable with the wage range for the new Principal Assessor (upper $29/hr and no greater than $30.95/hour) and would be negotiating on behalf of the Board of Assessors. The Board of Selectmen were comfortable.
7:30 PM  Selectmen closed the executive session with Stan making a motion to adjourn, Jon seconded and in roll call vote they adjourned with Jon, Edith and Stan each saying “aye.”

Respectfully submitted, Nina Nazarian, Town Administrator
