Town of Princeton, Mass. – April 4, 2016
Executive Session Minutes  -  BOARD OF SELECTMEN

Executive Session
4:08 PM  The two selectmen, Stan M. and Edith M. (Jon F. absent), took roll call vote in regular session and opened executive session with T.A. Nina N.
They discussed staff salary issues and reviewed a survey of area towns, noting compensation plans as detailed in step/grade charts and COLA wage increases for this fiscal year FY’17. The Princeton comp. plan impacts to employees are 3-4 percent based on a 2012 chart. Selectmen agreed to consider the percentages and incorporate funding to do another wage study.

5:05 PM  Library Trustees came in to discuss the director’s salary. Present were Jane Weissman, Wendy Pape and Deborah Simeone. Nina N. gave brief overview of what selectmen have been doing. Jane W. noted the success of the 2012 wage and salary study, as wages for library staff were shown to be equitable except for the director, Mary Barroll, with 28 hours per week. She had left the Ware library in 2006 at $31.57/hour but started here in FY’14 at $24.50. It was noted that she didn’t have basic librarian certification when she started but has acquired it since. Stan mentioned that the board’s position is sustainability. Trustees feel strongly that the director needs to be adjusted in the next two years to $30.53/hour. Stan said that BOS would take it under advisement. The two boards thanked each other and trustees left.

5:35 PM  Selectmen closed the executive session with Stan making a motion to adjourn, Edith seconded and in roll call vote they adjourned with Edith and Stan each saying “aye.”

Respectfully submitted, T.A. Nina Nazarian
