Conservation Commission
Minutes of 12-14-2011
Rich Haslip called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM. Members present: Rich, Jack Quinn, John Laskey, John Crouch, Sue Ellis, and Fred Huntress. Also present: Larry Moreau and Don Stover.
Jack motion to approve minutes of 9-14-2011. Seconded by John Laskey, vote unanimous. Minutes of November meeting postponed.
Rich reported that the land the selectmen were discussing was the gun club property. Larry said if any time there was any proposed land sales of town land we should be involved.
Rich said he would like to see a “memorial park” at the fire station, maybe with a veteran’s memorial. Discussion about the town owned railroad bed. Larry said the land in Mechanic Falls is owned by the abutters not the town.
As a short range plan for the commission.
1st: the commission has a list of town owned properties and a copy of the tax maps. It was suggested that each of the members color the maps so the town properties show at a glance.
2nd: would be to find out more information about Black Cat Mountain
3rd: create a trail committee as mentioned above.
4th: follow through with Rail road bed.
5th: talking again with property owners on Bragdon Hill.
Rich said he spoke with Scott about creating a subcommittee of the Commission- calling it the trail committee. It would report back to the commission about their activities.
Sue suggested we have more maps available at the trail head possibly in plastic baggies or plastic covered. Don has the map on his computer and will send it to Scott. Also suggested was having the map printed in the Poland Progressive. Rich will write an article for the Progressive regarding needing trail committee members and ask to have the map printed.
John Crouch said he had reviewed the draft of the conservation easement and said Rose sent the draft to Witt of NEFF 12-5-2011. Larry said he would look into it.
Meeting adjourned: 8:15PM
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Ellis, Member/secretary
