Conservation Commission Minutes 4-10-2013
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Fred Huntress. Present: Jack Quinn, John Laskey, John Crouch, Don Stover, Sue Ellis and Fred Huntress. Also present: Rich Haslip, and Scott Segal (recreation department head)
John Crouch motion to approve the minutes of March 13, 2013. Second by Laskey. Vote approved. Sue abstained due to her absence at that meeting.
Fred showed a draft letter he had written to send to property owners who have property abutting the Bragdon Hill Conservation Area asking if they would be interested in joining this project. There seem to be 5 properties involved. The members thought it was a good letter, so Scott said he could get it printed and mailed out. Sue said Rosemary Roy said she would have Fred as Town Forester back before the Selectboard, for approval.
Scott was present to discuss the values of town owned property, and possible uses by the conservation commission. He said some might be worth pursuing for use; others have houses on them and probably would not be of use. Fred would work with Scott in reviewing the available properties. Then in May we could do some site walks to determine the value for the Commission’s use. Don said he would bring his gps unit. The commission wants to be able to advise the Selectboard of the use or not, so they could sell parcels that would not be useful. There was discussion about the properties on Hilt Hollow Road.
Scott said we have no properties that have continuous trails at present and he would like to see that happen. He also shared his dream for the newly purchased red house property, sounding wonderful by creating a nice town complex.
There was a question about the property sale monies going specifically toward economic development as just approved at town meeting. John Crouch said one form that enhances economic development is conservation. Scott said he has 12-13 kids that will be working on trails this summer.
Next meeting is May 8, 2013 Respectfully submitted. Sue Ellis –secretary- member.
